Mirage Guide: Bamboozle Everyone
Mirage is the trickster champion of Apex Legends. His kit revolves around deceiving enemy teams by deploying decoys of himself all over the battlefield.
When To Use Them
This ability is a simple, yet surprisingly effective tool that can be used to trick opponents into revealing their position. When Mirage uses Psyche Out he creates a decoy of himself that will auto-run in the direction Mirage is facing until the decoy hits an obstacle. If the decoy is spotted and shot by an enemy, the decoy will vanish and an indicator will appear on Mirage’s HUD showing revealing the position of the enemy that fired upon the decoy.
Psyche Out is great to use from behind cover in a firefight as Mirage can send out decoys to distract and fool his oppressors allowing him to return fire.
Psyche Out has a short recharge time for a tactical ability allowing for constant use, even outside of combat. Experienced Mirage players will use his Psyche Out often in order to bait enemies into firing, revealing their positions.
After getting knocked down, Mirage immediately cloaks, allowing him to crawl away unseen. Additionally, he leaves a decoy of himself at the location he was knocked to fool enemies. Encore! is great for pushing fights against enemy teams shortly after landing.
When in a pinch, Mirage can use Vanishing Act to deploy a team of decoys at his location. However, unlike Psyche Out, the Vanishing Act decoys do not move after being deployed. Additionally after using Vanishing Act, the real Mirage will cloak for a short period of time, allowing him to reposition, while his decoys distract the enemy.
Vanishing Act can also be an offensive tool, allowing him to reposition behind an approaching squad while they try to clear out the decoys.
During Vanishing Act’s cloaking, Mirage can still be detected by hostiles, traps, and detection scanning abilities. Also, Mirage isn’t able wield his weapons during Vanishing Act’s cloaking phase leaving him defenseless if opponents happen to spot him.
Weapon combinations comes down to personal preference and should be heavily based upon your play style, as well as your team composition. If playing up close and aggressive, I recommend running with an AR/SMG combo or an AR/Shotgun combo, as these would allow you to get the most damage in, then fall back or reposition using Vanishing Act.
Mirage works great in a team where he can use other Legend’s abilities to further his bamboozle potential. Try dropping with a Wraith and use her Dimensional Rift portals plus your Psyche Out and Vanishing Act decoys to further confuse your already frustrated opponents.
Being blinded by Bangalore’s smokescreen is already frustrating, however seeing Mirage’s decoys running in and out of the haze will add further stress to already flustered opponents.
Bloodhound’s intel gathering abilities are excellent tools for pointing out enemy locations, making it all the more easy for Mirage to set up key bamboozles.
