Octane Guide: Speed Demon
Octane is a fast paced, aggressive, and highly mobile champion. He can quickly engage and disengage fights, as well as set up his teammates to do the same.
When To Use Them
Octane injects himself with a stimpack giving him 30% increased move speed. This costs a small portion of HP but cannot kill you. The ability has a short cooldown of 2 seconds so using it excessively will result in a dwindling HP pool. Stim also reduces the effects of slows. This includes running through water, arc star shock, caustic traps, and bullet hit punch. It will not reduce the movement penalty of sliding through water. Stim can be used to engage or disengage fights, as well as making yourself harder to hit mid-fight.
This fairly straightforward passive is one of the best in the game. Regenerating health outside of combat allows you to heal through stim pack usage. It is also extremely useful early game when you may not have access to heals after the first fight.
Octane's ultimate places a launch pad that launches anyone who passes over it into the air, in the direction they were headed when they entered the pad. This ability is extremely useful for repositioning, taking high ground, or dropping on an unsuspecting enemy. The launch pad can be used by enemy players as well as teammates, and can also be destroyed by shooting it.
Weapon combinations comes down to personal preference and should be heavily based upon your play style, as well as your team composition. Octane's launch pad enables high ground and mid-air engages. He benefits from high burst damage weapons that can easily be used while flying through the air. I recommend the peacekeeper or mastiff shotgun as it synergizes perfectly with the launchpad. It is significantly easier to hit a high damage shotgun burst on a target below, compared to tracking with an automatic weapon. A close second choice in this situation would be the wingman, with proper crosshair placement you can delete enemies before hitting the ground.
Octane benefits from a squad that can be as aggressive as he is, traversing the map with ease. He works well with Pathfinder and Wraith. Wraith portal, combined with zipline and launchpad make for a highly mobile group that can clear the map and consistently get high kill games.
